How to resize Azure SQL Database

How do I resize a 5 GB Azure Web Edition SQL database to a 1 GB database? I no longer need additional power and you do not want it to be set at a higher rate. I donโ€™t see anything on the Management Portal, and a quick web search didnโ€™t show anything either.

I answered a similar question here . It should be as simple as running the ALTER DATABASE command:

ALTER DATABASE MyDatabase MODIFY (EDITION='WEB', MAXSIZE=1GB)

Just keep that in mind: as long as your usage is <= 1GB, you will be billed for 1 GB. Billing is monthly, but depreciated daily. Thus, you actually do not need to reduce the maximum size if you do not rely on SQL Azure to prevent growth of more than 1 GB.

EDIT . As of February 2012, there is a new price level for 100 MB ($ 4.99 versus $ 9.99 per GB). Until you can set MAXSIZE to 100 MB, your monthly expenses will drop if you stay up to 100 MB. See this blog post for more details.
