How does PHP make money? They don’t ask for donations or sell pro solutions

I'm just curious: PHP is such a good reliable thing for creating fast web applications, but they don’t have donation boxes and they don’t sell shirts or mugs, etc. They also don’t have a “pro” decision to be bought and used in the way that their developers are paid? I know this is open source, and there are a lot of smart people behind it, but someone should be there to check and balance and pay for hosting, etc. This open source organization is slightly different from others: some have hosting plans, paid tutorials, etc. I only find that Zend makes sales, and I don’t know if zend is a company for PHP or PHP for Zend?

Zend (company behind PHP) is involved in several commercial events:

Software Sales: Zend Studio, Zend Server

Training: Zend certification, Zend Framework certification

Consultations and much more. See zend.com for more information.
