Is there a built-in version of Java Advanced imaging api?

Is there a built-in implementation of java advanced imaging api? We are currently using jar files

1-jai_core-1.1.3.jar

and

2-jai_codec-1.1.3.jar

I heard that there is an implementation of this api written using native code that works much faster, but cannot find it in the mess, which is the Oracle website.

Any ideas?

There are built-in JAI extensions for Windows, Linux, and Solaris: http://download.java.net/media/jai/builds/release/1_1_3/

They work much faster. AFAIK no native extensions for OSX.
