Windows Phone 7 shortcut menu icon

When you create a shortcut to a website on Windows Phone 7, the icon you create is a snapshot of the website, not any icon that I want to display. For example, with iOS, I can separate

<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="Logo.ico" />

and he uses this icon for the image on the main screen.

I tried

 <link rel="shortcut icon" href="Logo.ico" />

which seems to work in IE but not in IE.

Has anyone successfully created a home screen icon for a Windows 7 / IE7 phone?

I assume that you are linking the webpage to the start screen.
This is by design. You cannot change it.

I think the intention is that you can see a better idea of where you will come when you click on it. This is especially true if you pull out several pages from the same site (otherwise it would have the same icon).

If he could install a custom icon, he would need 173x173 pixels, which would not be the same as any other platform. Therefore, there would be many sites / pages that did not indicate this. If the backup consisted of using the default favicon image, these are usually only 16x16 pixels (or 32x32), and therefore would not look good on a 173x173 pixel plate.

All you need is a .css file, image 256x256.

  .logo { display:none; } @media screen and (max-width: 480px) { .logo { display:block; text-align:center; width:auto; padding-top:32px !important; padding-bottom:32px !important; } }

And right before the first html exit, create a div with the logo class and your 256x256 image.

Even tough Matt Lacey is right, there is a way you can do this. This is not a good way, but Google and others use it.

Create an HTML page that has nothing on it except your thumbnail. This page is redirected to your actual website. Now, of course, everyone should snap the HTML page to the beginning. You can tell your visitors to link an HTML page with a button or something similar.

OR

Create a javascript overlay for your site for each Windows phone user who wants to link your site to the beginning (defined by the "pin to start" button on your site). More info about this: http://www.russellbeattie.com/blog/creating-a-pinnable-windows-phone-7-tile-for-your-website-like-google

I am also looking for the best way to create a tile for my blog in WP8 right now, but apparently there is no direct way.
