Rails3 and Heroku: sending emails?

Question

I deployed the beta application to Heroku and read articles about sending emails. I do not think that I will generate more than 100 per day. There seem to be 2 routes they offer:

1) their complement is sendgrid Article

2) using gmail Article

3) I have my own rail-free web hosting package - can I use this?

Does anyone have experience using any of these? What is considered better / easier to manage?

In Heroku, I would recommend Sendgrid through a Gmail solution. Sendgrid is well integrated and you won’t touch 200 emails.

I am currently using both: Sendgrid with CommunityGuides on Heroku and Gmail for local testing. Sendgrid was painless to set up.
