How an application can enable "Allow automatic updates" in the Android market

I noticed that some applications like Google Maps, Facebook for Android, etc. (all pre-loaded BTWs) have the "Allow automatic updates" checkbox without doing this.

Is it possible to use only preloaded applications?

How can I achieve this using my application?

The user must explicitly check this parameter. I do not think there is any API to do this from the application.

You could ask the user if he wants (say, in a dialog box) to take him to his application’s market page so that he can check it.

I found this post from google groups that may help you:

It explains how this feature works. Hope this helps!

Users can choose to automatically update the application on the Market. However, if the permissions for the application have changed, this will not work. The user must manually update and accept the new permissions. After that, he will continue the automatic update.

This is pretty much the case.
