Retrieve news news from Google in R

I can use quantmod to get historical data and quotes close to real time for stocks. I can also use quantmod to get financial data from Google. Are there any existing R packages that would allow me to grab the Google news feed for this promotion?

If not, is there a package for reading and parsing RSS feeds in R?

I wrote my own function for this using XML and xts. I posted it as a question on SO , because I think it can be improved.

Of course, RSS is XML, so use XML .

There is also a package (not yet on CRAN) that does some of the nitty gritty parsing of RSS feeds (and Atom) for you - nothing unusual, just some of the basic cleanup settings, normalization between the RSS and Atom specs, etc. ..
