Moving up through the hierarchy is what the metro path

I am trying to change overflow7 so that it can be moved even faster - trying to make it more convenient to view.

To do this, I want to add the concept of “up” navigation, as well as the “reverse” direction so natural in WP7. So, if the user views the StackOverflow question, I want them to be able to:

  • quickly go to the "StackOverflow" page (it can be ten steps "back" otherwise)

  • quickly move up to the list of all StackExchange sites.

I was currently experimenting using the Home icon in the application bar (but this is too far, at present - all Home requests go to the top level), and I was experimenting with placing a hyperlink in the upper left of the page. I also tried to put them in a row.

These experiments have so far had several problems:

  • they needed too much dexterity of the thumb - the links at the top of the page are a little stretched
  • they looked a little ugly.
  • they took up too much screen real estate (especially breadcrumbs)

I think that I'm currently trying to use some kind of "Up" icon in the application bar. Although the projects that I have watched so far do not really look like they fit Metro ...
