The https connection works over Wi-Fi (wlan), but not for 3G / GPRS (umts)

I find this kind of strange: I transferred the working http connection to the https connection with a self-signed certificate, following these instructions . Everything works well when I am connected to Wi-Fi. However, 3G / GPRS connections will not work. Instead, I get a "timeout" or "connection denied" exception.

Does anyone have an explanation? Any help is appreciated as it is critically important.
