Visual Studio Project Templates

I would like to create a custom project template in visual studio 2010/2008, and I am looking for any resources / information that we give me a good starting point. In addition, I need to be able to create custom folders in these projects. Has anyone had experience with this?

EDIT: I found additional information on this, and I am trying to summarize and draw some conclusions. From the answer below, I saw one approach to creating project templates

Another approach I found: here

which uses the vs SDK and provides a new project template called "Project Template". I saw some other things like GAX / GAT and Starter. Does anyone have experience with any of these approaches?

You can read extensive information on project templates on MSDN . They describe everything in detail. In addition, there is information on how to create custom project templates. That should be enough to start. Regarding the second approach, which uses the SDK, you can find the difference and MSDN manuals . There is also information on starter kits.
