Transactionless JTA Data Sources

(Assuming manual dialing and delicacy of resources.)

I have several XA resources / data sources for which I plan to perform transactional updates. In addition, some data sources that support XA can be updated in isolation (without any other resource).

Assuming that I have already completed several transactions with an associated data source, can I then ignore the TransactionManager for one-way data source updates.

I just do not start a global transaction and do not take directly to the resource? Assuming this is the right approach, can I then secure a resource in a transaction without a side effect?

Thank,

Chris
