MacVim Visual Selection Delete returns 3 extra characters

Using MacVim with https://github.com/carlhuda/janus , when I select a visual block or insert and hit back, the cursor bounces back 3 spaces. Does anyone else see this? It makes it very annoying to make my favorite shift-cmd-up to select and delete blank lines.

set backspace=indent,eol,start

is the only reference to the backspace that I see in vimrc and gvimrc.

Made selection:

Made selection with mouse or shift-arrow

After pressing backspace:

Does anyone know how to fix this quickly? I work through http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Backspace_and_delete_problems to find out if any remedies will help, but I do not see anything at first glance.
