We have a client who uses Salesforce, but they want to develop their own website that will perform many functions, some of which will require integration with Salesforce data and functionality.
During discussions with the Salesforce seller and our client, the Salesforce provider insisted that the client do everything in Salesforce itself, as in a portal solution where their entire website is launched through Salesforce, or you switch from some basic HTML pages on your own server to Salesforce pages (Skinned to look like a customer site).
Is this recommendation not in the best interests of the client?
Does this not limit and limit you to the technology and costs of Salesforce?
Long-term, if this company decided in the future to expand and create network functions that are completely separate from Salesforce, what will happen?
Let me know what you think and maybe give me a link or two to motivate what you say. I hope that system / application architects will be responsible, not Salesforce sellers.
Thanks Jacques
