Unable to connect to report server

Win / 7 Professional SQL Server 2008 R2 Express

Reporting Services Configuration Manager

When I run it, the correct server name is displayed, but the report server instance is empty. When I press FIND, I get:

"Unable to connect to report server"

This is my development workstation, so IIS is not installed. Seems to work fine on XP. SSMS is working fine - no problem.

I tried uninstalling SQL Server completely by rebooting, reinstalling the new boot. The same result. I searched every article I can find - nothing.

I know this is a programming forum, but can someone point me in the right direction in case you come across this yourself? Thank.

I did not download the correct version. It should be with advanced services in the "Other installation options" section. It also installs a copy of VS 2008 with report design (BI) templates.

The problem is that the non-progressive version still installs the Reporting Services configuration manager, giving you the impression that you have the right software, it just doesn't work, and none of the error messages are obvious. Link to other installation options here.

Have you configured SQL Server to allow remote connections?

How to configure SQL Server 2005 to allow remote connections (applies to 2008)
