Future User Instance in SQL Server

The next page, "SQL Server 2008 R2" "User Instances for Non-Administrators," has a caption at the top that reads:

This feature will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server. Avoid using this feature in new developments and plan to modify applications that are currently using this feature.

What is the future of this feature? Will it be completely dropped? Replaced by another function? Is SQL Server Compact version to fill this space?

Bump. None? Does anyone use the Custom Instance feature?
