Are Tomcat server and Tomcat related to Eclipse different?

I installed Tomcat 7 serveron Windows on a port 8088.

Now I have added the server in Eclipse.

But I'm not sure if I need to manage Tomcat by going to the Tomcat directory, or do I need to close it and run from Eclipse? And how does Eclipse know that I installed Tomcat on port 8088?
