MariaDB on Windows - help with startup?

I am trying to learn MariaDB (v5.2.4), but I am having some problems. I can download and install it, but it doesn’t seem to work or I am missing something.

I am looking for a good resource for a 1st timer running on Windows.

A few specific questions:

  • Is MySQL required to run? It seems that the installation assistance is related to updating MySQL, but I want to start a new job.

  • Is there a management tool for the database (e.g. SQL Server Management Studio)? If not, what do people usually use?

You do not need MySQL to run MariaDB. After you installed MariaDB, you will need to enter

net start mysql

, MariaDB (, mysql)

, , Navicat gui, .

I used SQLyog as a GUI for MariaDB. A free version can be downloaded from here: https://code.google.com/p/sqlyog/wiki/Downloads . Navicat also has a version of Mariadb that is being paid.

When the Google code crashes, you can download the latest version of SQLyog Community β†’ https://github.com/webyog/sqlyog-community/wiki/Downloads .
