What size images should be used to support two iphone resolutions?

I have a few questions about screen resolution that I don't understand about. These questions suggest that my application will run on iOS 4.0 and above, as well as on iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4.

  • If the splash screen size (default.png) is (960x640) or (480x320)?

  • If the size of the application icon (Icon.png) is (57x57) or (114x114)?

  • What about the other graphics that I can use in my application, such a graphic that represents a button? Should I always create these images for higher resolution, and the application reduces them? In other words, if I want the button image to be displayed on 3GS, which is 200x40, should I create an image with a resolution of 400x80 so that iPhone 4 can use it?

Thank!
