XMPP / AMQP / Websockets vs Pusher / Beacon push?

Using the Pusher and Beacon push services, I can receive live updates in all browsers. Even perform chat functions.

Could these cloud services replace the need to learn XMPP / AMQP / Websockets / Comet to implement the same live updates / channels?

These services offer infrastructure as a service, so you don’t have to worry about underlying technology. However, services use technology as a point of sale, for example. Pusher makes heavy use of WebSockets to sell its service.
