We are planning an application that, among other things, should integrate facebook chat.
We discuss push notifications for receiving messages in the background. The proxy server for the chat comes to mind, which actually connects to the facebook chat, and the iPhone application connects to the proxy. It is then easy to make the proxy act as a push notification server.
Is this the only way, or are we making it more complicated than it should be?
