ASP.NET MVC2 / MVC3 - EnableExtensionlessUrls registry key has disappeared?

Windows Server 2003 (IIS6), .NET 4.0

I recently updated one of my sites with MVC2 / .NET 3.5 / ASP.NET 2.0. * before MVC3 and .NET 4. Since starting v4 in IIS6 causes all requests for the presence of /eurl.axd?{000000 -.....} added to the request, I had to add a registry key EnableExtensionlessUrls( as described in this article ) .

All this works fine, but this morning I received several letters complaining that parts of the site are not working. This turned out to be due to the fact that the registry key has EnableExtensionlessUrlsdisappeared. Further research showed that this was on all three servers (dev, staging, production).

The only thing I have done recently is to install MVC3. Is it possible that the installer deleted this key? Any other suggestions?

It seems like this was the result of a series of OS updates / patches.
