Best Java IDE

I am going to develop a network application using Java for my university project. I used Netbeans earlier to develop other Java, but for this special development project, I don't know which best IDE I can use.

I will receive IP addresses and connect to machines and will make socket applications. What is the best IDE for such an application? I will be working with this IDE for about 6 months, so it is better if it is good with usability.

Use eclipse, and then from this page http://www.eclipse-plugins.info/eclipse/plugins.jsp?category=Network find the network plugins that suit and install you the most.

Some network plugins that you can find on this page:

  • Netwiser: a unique platform for developing network software.
  • parfumball: Java-based network analyzer and packet sniffer

IntelliJ IDEA is free for Java SE projects, and my colleagues and I really like it.
