Is there any "enterprise container" in java?

There is a philosophical question.
Why is it worth having an "enterprise container" in java? Why not support enterprise container capabilities at the JVM level?
For example, what if I want to use some EJB features in my desktop application. Is there something wrong in terms of architecture? You can use Spring “enterprise features” without a “corporate container” like Glassfish, even without a “servlet container” like Tomcat. And that's good, isn't it?

Thank.
