Considerations for moving our web application to the device

We have developed a web application running on Linux that is quite popular. Now we want to release it as a device so that clients can run it inside their networks.

We are not sure of a better approach. We are flexible in areas such as: the Linux distribution, whether hardware or software. Does anyone have any advice on the best way? Links to any good resources on this? Questions we need to ask ourselves? Legal considerations for a commercial application? Security questions?

UPDATE:

This is a Python based web application. We would like the user to be able to do everything using the web interface. No command line, etc.
