Mysterious CUDA profiling error

So, I successfully installed the CUDA and GPU toolkit for calculating SDKs on Mac Pro with OS X version 10.6.6. Examples of CUDA programs provided by the SDK, as well as some programs of my own work. However, when I run any of these CUDA programs through the NVIDIA Visual Profiler (the executable is called computeprof), I always get the following error when starting:

"Failed to initialize profiling in start / stop mode"

The NVIDIA documentation does not mention this error, and Google Googling displays one message on the NVIDIA forums, in which several people have encountered this problem recently (since October 2010), but there are no solutions.

All information about this error message is welcome.

If Visual Profiler v4.0 does not work for you, the new version of CUDA (v4.1) has been released and includes a completely new and redesigned Visual Profiler.

The new NVIDIA Visual Profiler (v4.1) supports automatic performance analysis to determine the performance enhancements in your application. It also directly links to the most useful sections of the Best Practice Guide for the problems that it detects. And Visual Profiler is available for free as part of the CUDA Toolkit on the NVIDIA Developer website: http://www.nvidia.com/getcuda .
