Drupal Optimization with PHP Apache and Mysql Optimization

I installed Drupal, a common one from acquia, and used it for my college Intranet website. I configured it on Ubuntu lucid lynx Desktop where the latest XAMPP was running. I want to improve website performance. My data server and web server are on the same machine.

Can anyone suggest methos to improve performance at the next point

  • What should be the ideal configuration of equipment.
  • What parameters should I change in PHP to run it for better performance?
  • How to optimize apache and My SQL to get the best performance from both?
  • Are there tweaks in drupal that can do this faster?
  • Are there any additional packages for caching, etc. that can improve speed?

The question you ask is very wide, so it is difficult to answer any specific questions. A good place to start is drupal 's own performance tuning user guide .

I also highly recommend the enhancement module if your site serves mainly anonymous users, as this allows requests to not even go to drupal and will not be fully served by the static cache.

Also, try using varnish if you are using PressFlow, as suggested by berkes. This helps a lot if you need to serve content for anonymous users.

The last suggestion is to convert your db from MyIsam to InnoDB , but I think this requires some investigation, because it is not always the case that InnoDB is faster. With InnoDb, less time is lost from locking the table, while MyISAM is faster in table readings.
