What is the difference between outputs and referenced outputs in IB Inspector when connected?

I know that IBOutlet is a compiler directive that indicates that the next variable declaration acts as a connection point to other objects. Two conditions in the inspector window can confuse beginners. They look like 2 kinds of Outlets. But they can mean that they are Outlet and Outlets from other referenced objects. Can anyone who is more knowledgeable confirm this ...

Sockets are outputs on the object itself. You link them to other objects. Link to sockets - these are outputs on other objects that are connected to the object you are looking at. The new referencing line allows you to draw the connection in the opposite direction.
