I learned to never underestimate what PHP and some libraries can do, so can this be done using the php graphics library (or at least programmatically), without the need for something like Photoshop or Illustrator?
To be clear, I ask only for paper, not for iphone.
Edit: Dan Grossman's answer is great. I am also wondering if anyone can give me algorithmic ideas about what might happen in this image, so I might try to create some kind of code for mathematical matching. My visual imagination bothers me a little.
