Should I use Spring or Spring social integration to interact with Twitter and Facebook?

I will soon start a new project in Grails, in which I have to interact with Facebook and Twitter (and, possibly, MySpace).

I was wondering if anyone tried to do this through Spring Integration (2.0) adapters and the new Spring social APIs.

If you did this, could you give me the pros and cons that you encountered with each of them?

In Spring Integration, I played with the twitter connector in a small example, and it was very easy for me. I liked the free grip. Spring social, on the other hand, seems to be using templates that make this easy too ... hence my problem is which framework to choose.

Thank.

Philip

Spring Integration is Best

  • if you have a sequence of steps, for example a workflow
  • you have at least a couple of such threads
  • You want to separate your business logic from the orchestration logic (which step is invoked as threads) in these threads.

If you need simple connectivity (for fire reports and forget) for twitter, etc., you may need spring social. Just adding spring integration without real need can lead to a system that is difficult to understand and maintain.
