HTML source displayed in Firebug in standard browser "View Source"?

I have some HTML content generated via some PHP.

While investigating the css problem, I noticed through Firebug that some elements in the DOM were not organized as I expected. However, when I made the standard “View Source” in Firefox, it showed that everything was correct.

I know that the source displayed by Firebug is accurate, because the source that it represents to me corresponds to the aesthetic problem that I see on the screen, but I'm not sure what that means and how to explore further.

Why is this happening, and what initial version should I watch? (ps I do not have JavaScript on the website.)
