View dicom images on iPad

Question

Does anyone know how to display DICOM images on an iPad or any supporting format for displaying it? Do I need to switch to conversion? Any idea or any thoughts, or at least some help !!!

Osirix DICOM Viewer displays images on Mac OS and iOS for iPhone / iPad here in the app store. Keep in mind that the free Osirix and iPhone versions are not FDA approved medical devices.

There is also an eFilm Mobile platform released by Merge Healthcare. TIMS Mobile DICOM and I believe that WebPax has also released iOS DICOM readers.

So yes, it is possible. You will need to read something metadata from the DICOM image and display JPEG or another image in the file. I don’t know which open source platform is the agnostic structure that will download these files for you.

You can always use Citrix Receiver with your current PACS solution. Although this is not native DICOM image viewing on the iPad, it serves a good purpose.
