Incomplete file history in git (git-svn)

How should I view the full history of the contents of a file in git?

The file has a very short history in git, a repository synchronized by git-svn, but a long history in svn. History in git reaches the point where the file was moved. To view the story, I use the following command:

git log PATH_TO_FILE

Am I doing it right? git should keep track of content, not files, I thought it would be nice to keep track of file history through renaming.
