I would appreciate some advice on the following predicament:
I really want to let BDD try my first real Rails project, but I can’t get past the grueling wait every time I try to start a cucumber or Rspec. I am running Windows Vista and using rails 3.0.1 and ruby 1.9.2p136. I tried spork and it was incredibly difficult to follow the hacks and work with rails 3.0.1. Now I installed it and supposedly worked (following the instructions at this link: http://railstutorial.org/chapters/static-pages#sec:spork and no longer experienced the errors that I used when I tried to configure it myself), I still have 45-60 seconds of waiting to run one common cucumber scenario.
It is beyond me how the rail community can endure these waiting times and still evolve using BDD / TDD methods. I studied at RSpec Book, and there was no mention of having to endure the ridiculous boot times I came across (although there are a few more chapters that I haven't read yet). So does the rail community ignore this problem, or am I experiencing unusual delays?
I have a smart, fast laptop I'm working on (Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9400 2.53 Hz each) 4 GB of RAM.
I really would like to receive some recommendations on this subject, because after two weeks trying to make this work, I am ready to refuse BDD / TDD and, possibly, Rails in general.
Thanks for taking the time to read my complaints.
