CSS sunken / pasted effect without image

How does the sunken or insert effect apply to these letters in this menu? I looked (briefly) with Firebug, but cannot find how they do it. It works in FF, not in IE.

It's just a Text Shadow with a color lighter than the background instead of dark, which makes it look like a bevel. (We have learned to believe that “sunlight” on a computer screen usually comes from the upper left corner.)

CSS, Safari, :

text-shadow: white 0px 1px 0px;

, text-shadow:

p {
    text-shadow: 0 1px 0 #fff;
}

IE ( IE9 beta) text-shadow.

:

text-shadow: 0 1px 0 #FFFFFF;

As I see it, this is a color combination that creates an effect. Just change the text to red and the text is no longer inserted.
