Performance impact of javax.servlet.Filter?

I would like to know if there is any hard data on the cost of using a filter? For example, between using legacy in a servlet to share behavior or using a filter?

I will be surprised if someone can post hard data. And even if they do, it will most likely not be appropriate for you, because the numbers will depend on what is being done in the filter. It is also likely to fall into the category of premature optimization - it hardly matters if you really don't mess up something bad.
