How to programmatically add an index in Cassandra 0.7

Question

I tried to run the demo version of http://www.riptano.com/blog/whats-new-cassandra-07-secondary-indexes programmatically, but the results are different from running in the CLI. It seems that Cassandra can only index columns after adding an index. All previous data remains unchanged.

For the record. The problem is the following code.

ColumnDef columnDef1 = new ColumnDef(ByteBuffer.wrap(BIRTH_DATE.getBytes()), "LongType");
columnDef1.index_type = IndexType.KEYS;

It is not enough to determine the value of the index_type parameter. You also need to set index_name for it to work.
