I am using wpf 4.0.

I use canvas as a workspace. It is more than a screen. I want to create a workspace minimap for the overview workspace.

You may use periodically RenderTargetBitmap. For example, in the documentation . If your architecture supports it, you can also have two different controls tied to the same view model (one full size one), and then the thumbnail will be updated in real time.
