What is the easiest way to create PDF documents with embedded fonts in Python without a commercial / limited library?

I want to generate documents with tabular data and headers. I tried reportlab, but although powerful, it seems quite difficult to use.

You can create a document in html and then use WKHTMLTOPDF to convert to pdf ... This is GNU licensed, but it is a pretty good tool.

I used PISA and very, very happy. It uses reportlab for you.
