Is it safe to use the css property "visibility"? Will it work in all major browsers?

According to W3Schools , it is supported in all major browsers.

Please consider if you are really using visibility, as the item still occupies a space on the page (it will just be blank). If you want it to be as if the element was not on the page at all, consider using it display:none.

visibilityworks well, but opacitysome workarounds are needed. It is noteworthy that IE8 and below (not sure about IE9) do not support it, but they do support filterthat does the same.
