Help regarding non sql databases like hadoop, hbase etc.

I am new to distributed NoSQL databases like Hadoop, Cassandra etc. I have several questions that I seek expert advice from:

  • Can you list the problems / problems that you usually encounter when moving from an existing traditional database such as MySQL to these large cluster-based databases?
  • What are the difficulties, if any, when you need to adapt to a newer version of these open source projects?
  • Can you list the things that are usually stored / stored in memcached for quick page rendering?
  • How can I understand the source code for open source projects so that I can build it and possibly bring back the community?

The above questions may sound like idiotic and basic, but please ask the experts to answer the above questions in the detailed and best of their abilities.
