Rails 3 Cookies

Question

I have a simple application in which users print material in a text file to get different results. I need a function where, if the user enters something and then closes the browser tab, the next time they come, I can show them their previous / recent searches. This will persist even if they close the entire browser and open it again.

I believe that this can be done using cookies. Are there any good rails3 stones for using cookies or any simple tutorial that could lead me in the direction?
