Can I compile an Android application on 2.1 and have support for all versions 1.5?

Question

I want my Android application to have maximum coverage and therefore want to support all versions of V1.5 and beyond. I find some features missing in V1.5 that are available in versions V2.0 or V2.1. Can I compile V2.1 and then set minSDK for the application to 1.5?

Normal logic says that 2.1 specific functions will not work, but let me know your thoughts.

Also, what other workarounds? What would you "usually" in such a situation?
