Can GameKit connect to Wi-Fi without a wireless router?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this. I’m looking for a way to make real-time interaction between applications in iOS via wi-fi (I need about 150 foot range and I don’t think bluetooth offers this) and wonder about the possibility of peer-to-peer communication offered by GameKit, which apparently , offers both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. My question is: should the participating devices be members of an available wireless network (via a wireless router) or is this connection really peer-to-peer without a router?

I understand that Wi-Fi Direct is appropriate and will most likely be an option. Just wondering if I can do this using the services available today in iOS.

Thank!

Tim

A Wi-Fi connection is required. Bluetooth connection does not need it.
