Back when AppFabric caching was "Velocity", "High Availability" was out of the box, and one of the few basic features that made it different from other caching systems, namely memcached. However, along the way, “someone” decided that it was best to charge customers for HA, making it available only for Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition (or higher). I hope Windows Azure AppFabric caching provides HA. I am sure that this is necessary, if not for any other reason, because there is no “update” option. Does anyone know for sure?
As a side issue, if anyone knows of an ETA for releasing a Windows Azure AppFabric Caching release other than 2011 is very much appreciated. Roadmaps would be very convenient ... Instead, most of us rely on Google to determine conjecture plans :). Always been a big fan of MS products / services, but they could really use some of the additional “tricks” in the Azure area.
I understand that AppFabric caching is currently only in alpha and is only available through the Azure Labs portal.
