Eclipse java breakpoints - what is the purpose?

I am working with an Android tutorial and I just got to the debugging section and I wonder what the purpose of the breakpoint is. I can’t say it yet ... actually it stops the application, so I can be sure that it works up to this point, or I can set several breakpoints and use them as markers to “stop and jump” from the breakpoint before checking the breakpoint is my code?

A breakpoint is the place where execution stops, and you can start checking the current situation in your debugger. It includes:

  • point actually reached
  • stacktrace -
  • ,

  • step into - ,
  • step over -
  • step return - ( )

, , - .
