Connect to SQL Server 2008 over .NET

I installed SQL Server 2008 on my computer, which (Windows XP SP3).

I also have Visual Studio 2008 installed on another machine that has a .net application. Now when I try to connect to SQL Server from my .NET application.

I can not do it. I get an error message:

The client was unable to establish due to an error during the initialization process of the connection before entering the system. Possible reasons include the following: the client tried to connect to an unsupported version of SQL Server; the server was too busy to accept new connections; or resource limitation (insufficient memory or maximum allowed connections) on the server. (supplier: Named pipes Supplier, error: 0 - The process is not on the other end of the pipe.)

Is this because the client version is 2005 (which is installed by default with Visual Studio 2008) and SQL Server 2008?

provider: named pipe provider, error: 0 - no process is on the other end of the pipe.

Did you actually name the channels allowed for your SQL Server?
