OSX application shortcut folder in the dock and icon updates after installation

Here's the setup: I have the Applications folder right in the dock, which is installed by default after installing (Snow Leopard) afaik.

Now I have a custom DMG with an application in which I drag & drop to the application folder. When I open the application folder from the dock and browse the recently installed application, it does not have the application icon that it should - it actually shows the default icon (pencil / paper) with a circle and a line through it.

In the application folder opened through Finder, an icon is displayed after a few seconds.

The app is also customizable. It uses info.plist to specify the icon file to be used, which is called cc.icns, and is located in the Contents / Resources folder.

I think this may be a problem with the icon cache and logout / login may be resolved - a solution that I am not looking for. Afaik has applications that do not have this problem. (Right wrong?)

Any suggestions on this?

EDIT: This is a hoax for https://apple.stackexchange.com/q/5161/2123 - but I feel this forum may have a more technical solution;)
