Eclipse CDT: org.eclipse.cdt.internal.ui.text.CReconciler, java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

I can start Eclipse from the CDT about 15 minutes before it works with a java memory error. It is always associated with the flow org.eclipse.cdt.internal.ui.text.CReconciler. It got to the point that I start autopilot when this happens: "rm.lock", "y", "eclipse &" and I leave. I cannot find the relevant information on Google, and I did not find a similar entry on SO. Does anyone else run into this kind of problem?

I use

Eclipse 3.6.1, Build ID: M20100909-0800 CDT 6.1 Subversion 2.2.1 Pydev 1.6.3.2

OS: Red Hat 2.16 Intel Quad Core, Single Monitor

I do not have root access. I don’t know what other information someone will need to help diagnose this. The IT person was trying to find more information, but even he did not know what was going on. This is not a problem only with my computer.

You may need more heap space than the default Eclipse option provides. Try running Eclipse with a 1G heap by editing eclipse.ini and changing the line starting from -Xmxto

-Xmx1024m

Alternatively, you can run from the command line with

eclipse -vmargs -Xmx1024m

[ UPDATE - may have been suggested first]

_<workspace>_/.metadata/.log, , , .
