The oAuth protocol comes in two flavors: three-legged and two-legged. Three-headed is the delegation of user access rights to the application, and this is the one that receives the most attention on the Internet. The two-legged version is used to authenticate the application against the service provider (Twitter in my case) without the participation of a specific user.
In my application, I need read-only access to publicly available information, but at a higher speed than that available for an unauthorized request. I do not need to authenticate as a specific Twitter user.
Does Twitter support a 2-digit version of oAuth?

PS. The whitelist alternative is overkill for me, and Iām rather not waiting for the approval process.
