How to change cursor appearance in EditText?

I want to change the appearance of the cursor / marker in EditText. Typically, the cursor looks like this: | and blinks. I want it to look like a black rectangle (1 character in size) that blinks. Like the standard cursor used in a unix terminal. Is it possible?

It is not possible to change the appearance of the cursor without reimplementing TextView and android.text.Layout. The appearance of the cursor is hardcoded in the getCursorPath () method .
